ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (APP): Minister of State for Finance, Revenue, and Power, Ali Pervez Malik on Tuesday said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was steadfast in its commitment to steering the country toward progress.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that the government will continue its efforts until Pakistan achieves its rightful and commendable position on the global stage.
He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was personally overseeing reforms in the energy sector and other economic measures.
“We are making significant progress and will soon overcome the relevant issues,” he stated.
Regarding the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the minister said that positive news was expected in the coming weeks.
“We are making good progress toward closing the deal with the IMF, and we are fully committed to it. All prior actions have been completed,” he assured.
He further said the government was doing all the efforts to support low-income electricity users.
The federal government has already reduced the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) and provided subsidies to low-income users consuming up to 200 units of electricity, he said.
He also praised the Punjab government’s initiative to protect users consuming between 201 and 500 units, suggesting that other provinces could follow suit using their National Finance Commission (NFC) allocations. “We will welcome any such initiatives,” he added.
Addressing concerns about the temporary nature of these measures, he acknowledged that they are indeed short-term solutions but emphasized their importance.
“Given the increased consumption during these two months, they have reduced the burden of additional bills,” he concluded.
